Introduction
A former German Federal Patent Court Judge, Busso also held Director level posts with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO - a specialised agency of the United Nations) for many years. During that time he was responsible for the reform of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and the PCT automation project. Now retired from WIPO he remains an active advocate of the PCT system with unsurpassed experience of its operation.
Qualifications
Busso Bartels is a former judge of the German Federal Patent Court. He was also the Director of the PCT Legal Division of WIPO for many years and in that role had responsibility for relations with PCT contracting states, advice to national Patent Offices and introduction of PCT in non-contracting states. Mr Bartels was later the Director of the Office of the PCT of WIPO, ie in charge of all PCT activities of WIPO including the reform of the PCT and the PCT automation project. Now retired from WIPO he remains an active advocate of the PCT system with unsurpassed experience of its operation. Mr Bartels has been a Consultant to Avidity IP since 2005.
